Renton High’s Steve Sholdra placed 15th at the USA Swim Open Water Nationals June 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The 5K race is the fastest open-water meet in the nation and features the top open-water swimmers of all ages from across the country.Sholdra, who swims for the Bellevue Club Swim Team in addition to Renton, finished with a time of 55 minutes, 45.40 seconds. Only three of the 103 swimmers that completed the race, finished in under 55 minutes.

Sholdra won a 2A state title in the 500-meter in February. He beat the second-place swimmer by more than 20 seconds, broke a state 2A record and earned All-American consideration.
