Renton, Lindbergh lose in first round of districts, both still alive for state | Boys basketball

The Renton boys basketball team fell to Sequim 59-54 in the first round of the West Central District 2A tournament Wednesday night.

The Indians (11-11) play again in the consolation bracket Saturday at 11 a.m. at Foss High School. Renton can still make state if it wins the next two games.

Renton trailed by one point at the half and looked to be controlling the tempo of the game. Sequim was able to keep knocking down shots from outside and pulled out to a double-digit lead in the second half. Renton got as close as five points.

Lindbergh

Lindbergh lost to Franklin Pierce 54-43 Wednesday in the first round.

The Eagles (7-12) play again at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at Foss.

Lindbergh was tied with Franklin Pierce heading into the fourth quarter, but was outscored 20-9 in the final period. Diondre Toms led Lindbergh with 15 points. James Keum scored 12.
