The top-seeded White River Hornets on Friday ended the Renton High School girls basketball team’s shot at the 3A district championship, but the Indians season is still alive.
Despite a 48-39 loss Friday night at Curtis High School, the Indians are still alive and will play the No. 2-seeded team out of Port Angeles at 8 p.m. tonight, Saturday, at Foss High school in Tacoma.
Both teams will still advance to regionals.
In Friday’s game, the Hornets blasted out of the gate, doubling up the Indians 20-10 on the first period.
But Renton battled back, keeping White River completely off the board in the second to bring the game to 20-16 at the half.
Things remained tight through the third period and the teams headed into the final frame with White River hanging on to a 29-23 lead.
In the fourth, the No. 1 seed did enough to stay in front as the teams exploded for 35 points between them as time ticked down.
White River will play Sumner for the District 3 championship.
