The Renton girls basketball team gave it all they had Saturday in their sub-district tournament, but couldn’t hold on as the Sumner Spartans rallied in the fourth quarter and won the game in the second overtime period 50-47.

The top-ranked Indians went out strong, taking a 21-12 lead into halftime, but the Spartans proved to be more than they could handle in the second half.

Sumner bested Renton 13-7 in the third quarter and 14-11 in the fourth to tie up the game at 39 as time ran down. The teams were knotted again at 44 after the first OT, but Sumner pulled away for good in the second overtime, outscoring the Indians 6-3 to earn the top seed in this weekend’s district tournament.

Taylor Farris scored 17 for the Indians and Natajia McMillan added 12 of her own. Sumner’s Jamie Lange led all scorers with 20 points.

With the loss on the final game, Renton finished the tournament in fourth place and will head to the district tournament as the no. 7 seed.

The Indians will play Kingston in their first game at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. The winner moves on to play Port Angeles on Thursday and the loser goes home.
