Local athletes run, throw and jump to state track platform

Liberty's Andrew Cooper won the 3,200-meter race to bring home a gold medal.

Track and field athletes from around the Renton area made strong showings this past weekend at the state track meets in Tacoma, with Liberty’s Andrew Cooper bringing a first-place medal home.

Cooper won the 3,200-meter race and also finished second in the 1,600.

Also on the boys side, Renton’s Tai Anthony Miller brought a second-place finish in the 800.

Lindbergh’s Anthony Lim also brought home a second-place finish in the pole vault. Teammate Derek Anderson finished fourth.

Other Lindbergh placers included Peyton Campbell, who finished 11th in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump, and JoJo Serquina, who finished 12th in the discus.

Renton’s Kameron Jones finished 15th in the 1,600-meters.

Liberty’s Nate Solly finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and joined Christopher Hanson, Cameron Roberson and Isiah Owens on the sixth-place 4×400 relay team. Liberty’s Sean Szymanski and Nicholas Siegfried finished 13th and 14th, respectively, in the 3,200-meters.

On the girls side, Lindbergh’s Aajua Brooks, finished third in the high jump, seventh in the shot put and seventh in the long jump.

Liberty’s Sophia Wartena finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.

Liberty’s Brigette Takeuchi finished third in the 1,600 meters and fourth in the 3,200 meters.

Lindbergh’s Feven Fessehatzion finished 10th in the 1,600 and 14th in the 3,200.

Liberty’s  Carolyn Schmidgall finished 15th in the 1,600 and 12th in the 3,200.

Tyra Christopherson and Sophia Lindstrom, both of Liberty, finished 14th in the 1,600 and 13th in the 3,200, respectively.

Renton’s Samira Osman took 10th in the discus.

Liberty’s Taylor Krzycki finished 15th in the javelin and teammate Kelli Anderson finished 16th in the high jump.

In the 3A finals, Hazen’s Kate Lilly finished sixth in both the 800 and the 1,600.

Michelle Lilly, also of Hazen, finished fourth in the triple jump. Teammate Minhna Le finished 15th.

Alexis Rogers finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, Taliah Coe finished eighth in the javelin and Alicia Nguyen finished 12th in the long jump.
