After losing aces Casey Routos and Maniqua Sanchez from last season, the Lindbergh softball team needed a pitcher.
Senior Kasey Sporrong stepped up.
“She’s really not a pitcher,” Lindbergh coach Larry Lalibierte said. “But we were low on pitching. We have a couple of freshman pitchers, but they’re not quite ready yet.”
Sporrong played shortstop last season and made the Seamount all-league second team at that position. Sporrong is also clutch at the plate. She went 3-4 with three RBI’s in Lindbergh’s district-berth clinching win against Hazen last season.
Sporrong’s battery mate, Adrianna Bernal, will be a big part of Lindbergh’s future. The sophomore catcher made the all-league first team last season.
Lalibierte is taking over as head coach for Paris Mamon (who is now the head coach at Redmond High School), though this is his fifth season overall coaching with the Eagles.
Lindsey Bryden will be a big part of the team’s run production. She is the team’s usual first baseman but has been playing at third to cover an injury.
Maria Cornell is one of six freshmen on the team. She is starting in center field.
The team has enough talent to compete in every game as long as the Eagles avoid mistakes, Lalibierte said.
“If we play error-free ball, we can play with most people,” he said. “We’ll be competitive.”
Lalibierte expects the team to be among the group competing for the Seamount’s playoff spots.
