Liberty’s season ends in state tournament against Timberline

On the heels of a strange week that included a two-day state qualifying win, Liberty fell to Timberline in the 3A state tournament Saturday at Wheeler Field in Centralia.

The Patriots’ season ends with a 20-5 record, a KingCo regular season title and their first state tournament berth since 2003.

The Blazers of Lacey did most of their damage early, with a five-run second inning. Timberline added one run in the third, one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth. Liberty cut the lead to two runs briefly in the third, with two runs. Liberty then scored twice more in the seventh inning.

Troy Askins went 2-3 with two runs. Troy Colyer went 1-3 with two RBIs.

Liberty’s winner-to-state game against West Seattle last week started Tuesday then finished Wednesday because of a rain suspension.
