Liberty beats Everett on two more goals from Cassidy Nangle, advances to semifinals | 3A state soccer

The Liberty girls soccer team beat Everett 2-0 in the second round of the 3A state soccer tournament Saturday. The Patriots (17-1) advance to take on Eastside Catholic (12-6-5) in the quarterfinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

The Patriots (17-1) advance to take on Eastside Catholic (12-6-5) in the quarterfinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

Cassidy Nangle scored both goals for Liberty against Everett, giving her three in the state playoffs.

The Crusaders finished third in the Metro Mountain division this season with a league record of 4-4-4. They beat KingCo 3A/2A team Lake Washington 1-0 in the district playoffs. Liberty went 2-0 against Lake Washington this season, with a 5-1 total advantage.

If Liberty beats Eastside Catholic, it will play the winner of the Meadowdale/Seattle Prep matchup Saturday at Sparks at 2 p.m. in the 3A title game.

If the Patriots lose to Eastside Catholic, they will face the loser of the matchup Saturday at Sparks at 10 a.m. in the consolation final.

Liberty beat Columbia River 2-1 in the first round of the state tournament Nov. 9. The Patriots last made the state semifinals in 2000, when they lost to Lakeside in  a shootout. The team’s best ever finish at state is third.
