Josh Gordon and Devin Bennett each won district titles as the Liberty boys team placed second at the SeaKing district meet. The Patriot girls team placed fifth.
Gordon won the long jump, while Bennett won the triple jump. Gordon also took second in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the high jump. Bennett also finished second in the 400 and third in the long jump. Both were part of Liberty’s winning 4 X 100 relay, along with Hamilton Noel and Hiron Redmon.
Redmon finished second in the 800. Noel took second in the pole vault. Chase Kenney finished third in the same event.
Gordon, Bennett, Noel, Redmon and Kenney will all compete at the 3A state meet.
For the girls, Madison Birdsall placed fourth in the 400. Elizabeth Ryker took sixth in the same event. Freshman Amy Broska placed fifth in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200.
Emily Pestl-Dimmitt took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. She also placed fifth in the javelin and sixth in the high jump.
Liberty 4 X 200 real team (Birdsall, Delane Agnew, Stacy Christensen and Ryker) placed fourth. The Patriots’ 4 X 400 relay team (Michaela Chucka, Agnew, Ryker and Birdsall) finished third.
Morgan Safley placed third in the shot put. Anna Frodsham took third in the javelin. Jessica Pickering finished fifth in the pole vault.
All of the mentioned athletes will compete at state.
The 3A state meet is May 26-28 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
