Hazen senior Lauren Kaufman won two state titles, and the Highlanders placed 10th at the state swim and dive meet Nov. 11-13.
Kaufman won titles in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, giving her three titles in her high school career. She swam a time of 23.31 seconds in the 50, giving her automatic All-American status. Kaufman beat the second-place swimmer, Meadowdale freshman Anna Keane, by 0.53 seconds, the biggest gap between any two swimmers in the finals.
Kaufman swam a time of 51.26 seconds to win the 100, beating Keane by 0.81 seconds. Kaufman won a state title in the 100 last year too.
As a team, the Highlanders scored 106 points, good for 10th. Liberty scored 53 points and placed 15th.
Hazen’s team of Kaela Nurmi, Leah Maier, Kayla DiMicco and Kaufman took ninth in the finals of the 200-medley relay.
Liberty’s team of Elise Tinseth, Ashley Vigen, Caitlin Duffner and Nicole Lecoq took 13th.
Lecoq placed sixth in the 200 free, while Hazen’s Amy LeBar took 23rd.
Tinseth finished seventh in the 200 individual medley. Nurmi placed 15th and DiMicco placed 19th.
Hazen junior Sarah McCormick finished eighth in the one-meter dive competition. DiMicco took 20th.
Lecoq also made the finals in the 100 free, where she earned 10th.
Hazen (Taylor Gale, Cori Hall, Casey Chandler and LeBar) finished 23rd in the 200-free relay.
Nurmi placed 14th in the 100 back finals, while Tinseth took sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Hazen’s 400-free relay team finished third in the finals, just two seconds off the leader. Nurmi, LeBar, DiMicco and Kaufman swam for the Higlanders.
Liberty’s team of Lecoq, Katie Nelson, Duffner and Tinseth took 18th.
