Hazen tops Renton in overtime | Boys basketball

The Hazen boys basketball team beat Renton 73-67 in overtime Tuesday night.

Renton (6-7 overall, 4-3 Seamount) controlled the first half, running up a 13-point lead. Hazen (9-2, 6-1) came back and eventually took a 57-55 lead late in the fourth quarter on a shot by Michael Dampier. Dampier scored 22 points for Hazen. Dampier is averaging 17 points per game in his past three games.

De’Corrius Sampson also scored 22 points, a season high. Sampson added six assists and six rebounds.

Mitch Edward led Renton with 22 points. Colton Hafey added 10 and Malik Roper scored nine.

Renton also fell to Foster, 71-60 Jan. 7.

Darren Briggs scored 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in the game. Justin Bennett added 15 points.

The Highlanders are tied with Kennedy Catholic for first in the league, while Renton is in fourth.
