Renton’s top two singles players worked to relatively easy wins on Friday, but it was not enough as the Hazen Highlanders boys tennis team rolled to another victory Friday night, beating the Indians 5-2 at Renton.
Renton’s Oscar Cruz defeated David Vaiser 6-1, 6-3 in first singles and Pedro Alfonso beat Avelyino Vargas 6-0, 6-0 in their second singles match, but those would be the only wins on the board for the Indians.
In third singles, Dylan Kittay of Hazen defeated Connor Anselme in a tight 6-4, 7-5 match while Hazen’s fourth singles player, Sohil Shah dropped his first set to Darius Felder before rallying to win 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
In Doubles play, the Hazen first team of SonLam Nguyen and Justin Nguyen beat Howard Ho and Sameer Apdulhaliem 6-1, 6-2 while the second team of Alan Li and Nathan Nagel bested renton’s Tony Vo and Kendrick Untalen 6-2, 6-1. In third doubles, Hazen’s Tyler Holm and Orion Jaxkson beat David Huynh and Sam Nguyen 6-3m 6-1.
The loss drops Renton to 2-8 on the year and 2-7 in the Seamount. They are scheduled to play Foster on Friday at Renton.
Hazen improves to 9-1 overall and 8-1 in the league. They are scheduled to play Kennedy on Wednesday at Hazen.
