After a tough loss to Lindbergh on April 12, the Hazen Highlander soccer team has gotten back on track, picking up two more wins against Seamount League opponents.

On Tuesday, Hazen got out to fast start, scoring in the third minute against Foster and never looking back. Sophomore Robbie Schroeder picked up the opening goal off an assist by Drew Wilson.

Thirteen minutes later, Reyes Garcia headed in a corner kick from Ethan Kem. Then, in extra time before the half, Gorav Singh scored off a cross from Carlos Alanis to make it 3-0.

Keeper Louis Rodriguez picked up the shutout, his seventh in 10 league games.

On April 15, the Highlanders traveled to Evergreen for a match-up with the Wolverines that ended with Hazen on top 4-0.

The win was a rebound for Hazen, which gave up a 2-0 lead to Lindbergh to fall on the final play just days earlier.

Leon Bamba scored two goals for the Highlanders against Evergreen and Singh had two assists. Wilson and Kem each also scored goals and Diego Betancourt picked up an assist.

Rodriguez again earned the shutout.

“People might be ho-hm about tonight’s win,” Coach Ken Matthews said in an email, but added, “You have to win the games you’re favored to win because Seamount boys soccer always has a surprise or two.”

Hazen is now 8-3-1 overall and 8-2-0 in the Seamount. The sit in second place overall, but at the top of the 3A standings.

The Highlanders play at Highline today, Friday, and against Renton Tuesday at Renton Memorial Stadium.
