Hazen coasts to two non-league wins | Boys basketball

Hazen’s duo of R.J. Magar and Frankie Johnson was more than enough to take out Ingraham 61-47 Wednesday in a non-league game.

The Highlanders (7-2 overall, 3-2 Seamount) got 22 points each from Johnson and Magar.

Decourious Sampson led the team with six assists. Brandt Graybeal collected 10 rebounds.

Hazen trailed by three points after the first quarter but turned the action around and led by 20 after three quarters.

Hazen 61, Newport 48 (Tuesday)

Hazen traded blows with Newport until the Highlanders finally came out on top 61-48 in a non-league game Tuesday.

Hazen went up 21-5 after the first quarter, but Newport bounced back to take a two-point lead at the half.

The Highlanders soon took the lead back and opened a comfortable margin in the second half.

Magar led Hazen in scoring with 21 points. He made five three pointers and is averaging 17.4 points per game this season.

Dewit Kasa scored 16 on just 10 shots. He also collected six rebounds and two steals. Sampson had four points, seven assists and three steals. Graybeal had five points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
