Hazen beats Tyee, moves closer to league title; Renton takes out Foster, remains tied for third | Boys basketball

Hazen cruised to an 85-56 win against Tyee Friday night and moved one step closer to a Seamount League championship.

The Highlanders (14-3 overall, 11-1 Seamount) now hold a two-game lead over Kennedy Catholic with two games left in the regular season. Hazen can clinch a league title with a win against Foster Tuesday night.

Against Tyee, the Highlanders led by nine points at the half and pulled away in the third quarter.

Dawit Kasa led Hazen with 20 points and 13 rebounds. R.J. Magar added 16 points and five steals. Brandt Graybeal scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Frankie Johnson had 10 points and four assists.

Renton 67, Foster 57

Renton came back from an early deficit to beat Foster 67-57 Friday night.

The Indians (10-8, 8-4) trailed 16-7 after the first quarter, but took over the lead in the third.

Renton is still tied with Foster for third place in the Seamount (first among 2A teams), three games ahead of Lindbergh.

Darren Briggs scored 20 points to lead Renton. Justin Bennett added 18.

Evergreen 73, Lindbergh 57

Lindbergh fell behind early and couldn’t come back all the way i a 73-57 loss to Evergreen Friday night.

The Eagles (5-9, 5-8) are in fifth place in the Seamount, two games ahead of Tyee and Evergreen.

Lindbergh trailed by 17 points at the half couldn’t rebound. James Keum led the team with 20 points. Casey Hupee and Diondre Toms each scored 11.

Liberty 44, Interlake 41

Liberty beat Interlake 44-41 for its second win in the past three games.

The Patriots (6-11, 4-8 KingCo 3A/2A) sit in sixth place in the KingCo 3A/2A.

Liberty’s defense dominated the early game, holding Interlake to 10 first quarter points. The Patriots capitalized to lead by seven at the half. Interlake came back with a 17-8 run in the third, but Liberty responded and took the lead back.

Zach Good led the Patriots with 11 points. Tynan Gilmore scored eight.
