Football: Hazen beats Kennedy for first time in 18 years; Renton tops Evergreen

Hazen’s James Holland made sure to make his last contest against Kennedy count. The senior scored three touchdowns and led the Highlanders to a 28-14 win Thursday night.

It was the first time Hazen has won over Kennedy in 18 years. Hazen (6-3 overall, 6-1 Seamount) takes over second place with the win (the Highlanders had been tied with Kennedy) and the Lancers move into third.

Kennedy led 7-6 at the half, before Holland scored from a yard out to give Hazen a 14-7 lead. Kennedy’s L.J. Jennings scored on a run in the third quarter to keep the teams even heading into the fourth.

Holland scored twice in the final quarter, once from one yard out and once from 68 yards out. He finished the game with 30 carries for 228 yards.

Hazen finishes the regular season against Tyee on Oct. 29. The Highlanders are guaranteed to earn one of the Seamount’s seeds into the state tournament play-in round.

Renton 32, Evergreen 14

Renton topped Evergreen 32-14 Friday night.

The Indians (5-3, 4-3) have now won two in a row and are tied with Mount Rainier for fourth in the Seamount.
