Moves continue to come fast and furious for the Seahawks as the team gears up for the 2011 season.

The team signed Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller Tuesday. Miller, 25, caught 60 passes for 685 yards and five touchdowns for the Oakland Raiders last season. Miller will team with John Carlson to give the team two well-rounded tight-end options.

“Now we’ve got another weapon,” said Tom Cable, Seahawks offensive line and assistant head coach. “Those two are going to get along great, because they’re like two peas in a pod.”

Cable coached Miller in Oakland when he was the Raiders head coach from 2008 to 2010. Cable played a big role in Miller coming to Seattle, as well as Seattle’s signing of offensive guard Robert Gallery.

“I think Zach is excited to be a part of this team and so we’re thrilled to get him and really looking forward to it,” said Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. “It was extremely important for his ability to feel comfortable with Tom (Cable), one. Tom’s a really good recruiter, as well.”

Carroll said Miller’s signing does not mean the team will try to move Carlson. He plans to play the two in tandem.

In addition to Miller, Seattle has also signed quarterback Tavaris Jackson, wide receiver Sidney Rice, offensive lineman Robert Gallery, as well as defensive linemen Alan Bracnh, Ryan Sims and Jimmy Wilkerson since free agency opened last week.

With all the new faces coming in, the team parted ways with a number of players, including long-time leaders Matt Hasselbeck and Lofa Tatupu.

The changes were strange for veteran cornerback Marcus Trufant who, along with Leroy Hill, is one of just two players remaining from the Seahawks’ Super Bowl appearance in 2006.

“I’ve got guys next to me that I usually see all of the time every year, so it’s different,” Trufant said. “But that’s the tough part of the game. You’ve just got to be able to move on.”

Players had a day off of practice Wednesday and Thursday marked the first day free agents were allowed to practice with the team.
