Basketball: Renton places 13th in 32-team Quaker Summer Slam

The Renton High boys basketball team placed 13th at the ninth annual Quaker Summer Slam Tournament. The tournament featured 32 of the best teams from Washington and Oregon playing at Franklin High School June 5-7.

The Indians edged Foss in the first round in a low-scoring affair, 28-26. Renton then met Rainier Beach in the second round and lost 74-58. Beach went onto place third.

Renton then beat 4A Puyallup 63-59, then fell to Lakes 54-53 in the final tournament game. Lakes finished seventh overall with the win against the Indians.

The home team Franklin Quakers won the tournament, beating Jefferson (Oregon) 90-83 in the finals.

Renton’s Achoki Moikobu was 17th in tournament scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. Nathan Guy was 29th, at 13 points per game.

Moikobu made the tournament all-star team.
