Auburn Mountainview knocks Hazen out of playoffs | Soccer

The Hazen soccer team didn’t have an answer for Auburn Mountainview as the Lions beat the Highlanders 3-0 in a sub-district game Tuesday.

The loss ends Hazen’s season at 6-7-2 overall. Both teams played a physical game, and eventually emotions boiled over the second half. Mountainview’s coach erupted in yelling at one of the referees. Later, the teams each received multiple warnings.

“We just got out of control,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews, who took over as coach of the team when Ritch Gouk resigned in early April. “It’s silly and kind of a tough thing to have happen.”

The Lions’ Issac Cardoza scored a hat trick in the game.

Hazen had a strong showing to make the playoffs. The Highlanders beat Highline 3-0 May 7 after losing to the Pirates 1-0 just the previous week.

“We played really well against Highline Saturday,” Matthews said. “We just didn’t have it today.”
