3A swim and dive recap

Strong performances by Liberty’s Logan Briggs led the Patriots to seventh place at the 3A state swim and dive meet Feb. 18-19.

Briggs finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of one minute, 41.99 seconds. The junior missed All-American consideration by less than half a second.

Briggs also took third in the 500 free, missing All-American consideration there by 1.52 seconds.
The Patriots scored 109 points to take tie with Wilson for seventh at the state meet. Hazen scored 14 points and finished 27th at the meet.

The Patriots team of Luke Duschl, Kevin Hays, Briggs and Tyler Larson finished fifth in the 200-medley relay finals.

Liberty’s Duschl took eighth in the 200 IM finals and sixth in the 100 back finals.

Hazen sophomore Chase Onstot placed 11th in the 200-free finals. Freshman Malcolm Mitchell took 21st in the prelims of the same race.

Onstot also took 10th in the 500 free finals.

Hazen’s Bran Alexander placed 16th in the one-meter dive finals. Liberty’s Jesse Herrild placed 22nd in the one-meter dive competition.

Hays, Andy Kubeja, Connor Biehl and Larson teamed to take 22nd for Liberty in the 200-free relay prelims.

Liberty’s group of Briggs, Hays, Larson and Duschl finished seventh in the 400-free relay finals.

Hazen (Kyle Nelson, P.J. Warmenhoven, Alex Gayte and Onstot) placed 20th in the 200-free relay prelims.

Onstot, Warmenhoven, Corbin Kozai and Mithcell placed 17th in the 400-free relay prelims.

Hazen’s team of Blake Baxter, Daniel Velasco, Tyler Nguyen and Andrew Le took 23rd in the 200-medly relay prelims.
