William Taylor Sledge

William Taylor Sedge passed away at Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane, WA September 29, 2009, with family by his side. Bill, to his family and friends, was born January 23, 1930 in Cloquet, Minnesota. He was 1 of seventeen children born to David and Cora Virgina Sledge. Bill’s family later moved to Scio, Oregon where he was raised. Bill joined the U.S. Army and served his country until 1950. After his discharge he moved to the Renton area and went to work for the Boeing Company as an electrician for 32 years. After his retirement in 1985, Bill and his loving wife Nellie of 49 years moved to Coulee City, WA to pursue his favorite pastime of fishing and having a beer with his good friends. Bill loved to work in his shop and drive his 1974 Volkswagen bug around town. Bill was known by his many friends in Coulee City as “Hammer”. He loved to have his children and grandchildren visit. Bill is survived by his wife Nellie Sledge and his daughters from his first marriage, Glenna (Dave) Smith, Vickie (Neil) Allen, Janet (Bill) Schaefer and Ranae Hamblin. He is also survived by his brother David Sledge of Lyons, OR and his sisters Grace Ecklund of Keiser, OR, Jean Breamer of Vancouver, WA and Leah Music of Alaska. Bill also had three stepsons, Bill (Diana) Henry, Tom (Terri) Henry and Pat Henry. He is preceded in death by his parents David and Virginia Sledge and his stepdaughter Gloria Henry. He was the proud grandfather of 22 grandchildren who greatly enriched his life and so many great-grandchildren we can’t list them. His family wishes to thank all those who expressed their love and memories to our family. There is a graveside service at the National Cemetery 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009.
