LONG TIME RENTON RESIDENT PASSED

William R. (Bill) Monaghan, son of Renton pioneers, Bill and Flora Monaghan, passed on November 9, 2023 in Republic, WA. He was born 1927 in Seattle and lived most of his life in Renton. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 74 years, Loretta Jordan, and a brother.

Bill and Loretta lived their younger years in Bryn Mawr, where he was a member of the Bryn Mawr volunteer fire department, and a life member of Skyway VFW.

In 1968 when they moved, Bill was implemental in opening the fire department in Maple Hills, where he volunteered for many years and became the Fire Chief for a few.

He was a Navy veteran in WW2, serving on the destroyer escort USS Riddle. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Bill and Loretta enjoyed travelling, seeing the wonders of the USA and making new friends.

He is survived by his 4 children, Kristi (John) Breezee, Wauconda, WA; Carole Monaghan; Jim Renton,; and Coleen (Danny) Flowers of Bryn Mawr; grandchildren, Dean and Timothy Breezee, Cory, Derik and Britt Monaghan; 8 great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, and sister Marilyn Ragle of Renton.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Nov. 28 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
