William Douglas “Bill” Rathbun

1924-2008

William Douglas “Bill” Rathbun, age 83, passed away at the Valley Medical Center in Renton on November 12, 2008. He had been a resident of Renton for the past 46 years. He was born on November 26, 1924 in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota to John S. and Mary Jane (Byer) Rathbun.

He served in the US Army in the

Philippines during World War II from 1945-1947 and later served in the US Navy.His marriages included: Beverly Anne Bishop, with whom he had five children; Sandy Shaw, with whom he had a son and Henrietta Wright, who preceded him in death in 2005. Bill lived in Victor, MT for many years where he worked the family farm and logged. After moving to Renton in the early 1960’s he continued to log and later worked for Pacific Car foundry as a crane operator.

His enjoyments included yard work, gardening, playing cribbage with friends and his cat, “Lady” He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Renton. He is survived by his 4 sons, Samuel H. Rathbun of Auburn, WA;Daniel W. (Jeniec) of Darby, Mt.; Douglas R. (Laney) of Oak Harbor,WA; William D. (Chana) of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 daughter, Lynne Y. Rathbun of Kent, WA: 3 grandchildren and 3 great

grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Deigel and two brothers, John and Dennis, all of Montana.A funeral service was held on November 18, 2008 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Renton with viewing prior to service, at the church. Burial followed, with military honors at Tahoma National
