Walter was born January 14, 1933 to Thorvald and Minnie Meland of Hawley, MN; both deceased.

Preceded in death by his wife, Swish Meland; brother Richard; sister Carolyn. Survived by wife, Lillie Meland of Orting. Children: John Meland of Belfair; Marlea Mayes of Alabama; Mollie Ryals of Oregon. Brothers: Merle Meland of California; Dennis Meland of MN. Grandchildren: Daryl, JJ, Jolene, Shawn, Glen, Danny, Amanda. Numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Walter graduated from Hawley High School, MN in 1951 and moved to WA after 4 Years in the Navy. He worked for Boeing and the Pink Elephant Bakery before starting his career at State Farm Insurance in 1965. Walter retired from State Farm Insurance with multiple Million Dollar Sales Awards.

After retirement Walter became a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Auburn, WA, which he was a member until his death. Walt was a nature lover. He loved hunting and fishing as well as his cabin on the lake. Walt loved his peaceful mornings with his first coffee watching the wild birds and deer outside his window; while working a crossword puzzle.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup, WA 98371.
