Kathryn W. (Horrigan) Rodes

Kathryn W. (Horrigan) Rodes, 89, died on Monday, February 22, 2010. She was born on December 13, 1920, in Orville, Washington, to parents Myrtle (Schull) and John Horrigan. Kathryn attended Garfield High School and graduated from Roosevelt in 1938. Kathryn was first married to John Wren. She later married Dave ‘Dusty’ Rodes Sr. in 1946 and was married for 25 years. Kathryn retired from The Boeing Company after 35 years. Kathryn had a very generous heart and found great joy caring for her family, friends, pets and garden. Her huge garden supplied vegetables and roses to everyone she knew. She loved giving parties, playing cards with friends, baking during the holidays, caring for her cat Sophia, watching sporting events, and reading. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Schneider of Phoenix, AZ, and son David ‘Dusty” Rodes of Black Diamond, WA; grandchildren Kellie Gillespie of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Snyder of New York, NY, Kris Haaversen of Phoenix, AZ, Ashleigh Bobovski of Bellingham, WA, and Dustin Rodes of Renton, WA. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, nephew Brad Horrigan of South Carolina and great-nieces Kyla and Chelsea Horrigan of Mukilteo, WA.Kathryn was one of the last of her generation. Preceding her in death was husband, Dave ‘Dusty’ Rodes; beloved son, Michael Wren; brother, John Horrigan; sister-in-law, Miriam Horrigan; and sister-in-law Catherine Hartzell of Los Gatos, California. Committal Service to be held Saturday, March 13th at 11:00am at Greenwood Memorial Park, in Renton. There will be a Celebration of Life held at her home in Renton following the service.Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society or the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
