Joyce Strain

March 13, 1948 ~ July 27, 2016

Joyce Strain passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA. She was born on March 13, 1948 in Longview, WA.

Joyce enjoyed many water sports, particularly water skiing and boating. She was an active snow skier, loved reading and attending Broadway shows. Joyce was an instructor for many years at Green River Community College in Auburn, WA before her illness. She was respected and loved by her colleagues and students alike.

Joyce’s greatest joy in life was her family, a family she always put first. She was our family’s cheerleader in all we accomplished and achieved with our lives.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Loraine and Burl Elliott. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bob Strain from Renton, WA; her children, Tawnya Strain from New Mexico and Rob and Jen Strain from Shelton, WA. She is also survived by her grandson, Robbie Strain of Shelton and her sisters, Patti Wills and Brenda Gold, both from Vancouver. Joyce had nieces, nephews and many cousins who cherished her and numerous friends who loved her dearly.

A memorial service for our Joyce will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, WA at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, followed by a reception on site. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123.
