Where’s Diana’s brood? Find them, win River Days’ prize

Diana is out looking for her 25 kids. You can help. You could call out to them – Widget, Zander, Moose or Quack – just to name a few. They won’t answer back. Those kids are ducklings. They’re really not ducklings; but other than their 2-foot-tall size, you probably couldn’t tell.

They’re really not ducklings; but other than their 2-foot-tall size, you probably couldn’t tell.

Diana and her brood are all about creating some quack – well, buzz – about the IKEA Renton River Days coming up in July. The city’s summer festival is marking its 25th year, thus the 25 ducklings.

The 25th Anniversary Duck Hunt is wrangled by Mike Selinker of Renton, owner of the Sammamish-based Lone Shark Games. He was asked by the River Days board to develop and manage a promotional game for River Days.

Other cities have featured pigs (Seattle) and dogs (Chicago) in their promotions, he said, but ducks were a natural, given the festival’s popular Rubber Ducky Race.

“We came up with the concept of getting your ducks in a row,” he said.

So, this is the deal.

Soon, maybe even today, those 25 ducklings are going to disperse throughout the city. They will find temporary refuge in all sorts of places, from businesses to public buildings.

Each location can decorate the duckling in a style fitting their business or decor, Selinker said.

Your job is to find each one and get a bingo card stamped when you do, starting June 25 – a month before the opening of Renton River Days. There will be clues, posted on Facebook at facebook.com/rentonriverdays as well as Twitter feeds.

Bring the cards to the festival and win some prizes. All 25 ducklings will be on display at River Days.

The duck hunt is “designed to be a big family friendly event,” Selinker said.
