Thursdays, April 20 to June 1

Renton Spring CERT Classes at Renton Regional Fire: Renton’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will hold free emergency preparedness classes every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. from April 20 to June 1. The class’ final drill will be on Saturday, June 3 at the Renton Regional Fire Authority Station 14 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register through April 14 at rentonwa.gov/register and keyword search “CERT”.

Thursday, April 20

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee and camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 NE 12th St.).

Saturday, April 22

Arbor & Earth Day at Cedar River Trail Extension: Volunteer to plant trees, spread bark, install storm drain markers and distribute educational materials with the City of Renton. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Ceder River Trail Extension on 64 Logan Avenue South and a light lunch with snacks will be provided, along with a free t-shirt and a sapling for volunteers to plant at home. Register to volunteer at rentonwa.gov/volunteer, must be 14 years of age or older and be sure to dress for the weather. Parking will be at Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center at 211 Burnett Avenue North.

Renton Neighborhood BBQ – Sustainability Fair at Thomas Teasdale Park:

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., this free city event offers live music, lawn games, city department information booths and free hot dogs, with vegertarian options. Thomas Teasdale Park is located at 601 South 23rd Street. For more information, visit rentonwa.gov/neighborhoods.

Monday, April 24

Renton Schools Foundation Annual Benefit Breakfast Fundraiser at Renton Pavilion Events Center: From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., join the free benefit breakfast for Renton School. Doors will open at 7 a.m. and parking is free at the adjacent City Center Parking Garage. Register for your spot at rentonschoolsfoundation.org/benefit-breakfast.

Saturday, April 29

Celebrate Día: Multicultural Literacy for Children’s Day/Book Day at Renton Library:

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., this event is part of a King County Library series that promotes multicultural books, languages and reading with families. There will be Spanish/English, English/Vietnamese, English/Somali and English/Hindi story times, along with a crafy hour and an English/Spanish music show. Suitable for ages 3 to 12 and no registration required.

Saturday, May 13 & Sunday, May 14

Renton City Retro at Renton Pavilion Center:

This video game convention is back and at full capacity, complete with all access after parties, free arcade and video game play, vendors, toys, comic books, anime, an artist alley, cosplay contest, e-sports tournament and even a burleqsue show! The convention will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days and tickets are available at rentoncityretro.com.
