The following information was taken from City of Renton police reports.

A Renton man made threats at a local post office and was arrested on July 7.

Police found the 63-year-old suspect in the post office at 4301 N.E. Fourth St. sitting on a ledge and talking to himself shortly before 1 p.m. They observed him mumbling to himself about killing people, but he didn’t mention specific names.

A witness from inside the post office said she heard the man make verbal threats to shoot employees and customers.

The man was arrested for investigation of breach of peace.


A gun scare

There was a gun scare near Cedar River Park on July 7.

Someone called police to report a man with a handgun near the Renton Community Center, 1715 Maple Valley Hwy, just before 8 p.m.

When police arrived they spotted a black GMC Yukon stopped under the overpass leading from Houser Way South into the parking lots for the Renton Community Center. As police got closer, the driver drove off and the male matching the description of the man with the gun walked toward Cedar River Park.

Police detained the man and found a knife similar to a steak knife and pellet gun resembling a Glock handgun.

The 40-year-old Burien man was cited for possessing a pellet gun in a park.


Man harassed

A man was harassed for being gay at the Renton Transit Center on July 6.

Police observed a 24-year-old male aggressively posturing in the face of another male at the transit center at 219 Burnett Avenue South at about 2:30 p.m.

The 24-year-old yelled derogatory statements at the other male. Police warned the suspect to stop yelling and warned him his behavior was unlawful at the transit center. The 24-year-old continued to yell more slurs and was placed under arrest for unlawful transit conduct.

When interviewed, the victim told police that he heard the suspect use a slur for gays.
