Two more candidates emerge for city council

The Mayor's office, five city council seats, three school board seats and two hospital district seats up for election. Filing week ends Friday.

Two more candidates for the city council emerged during the early part of candidate filing week, which runs through today, Friday.

As of mid-week, all of the previously announced candidates had filed for this year’s election, except Marcie Palmer, who has stated she is running for re-election.

In addition, two candidates filed to run for Council Position 4, currently held by Greg Taylor. Taylor’s plans are as of yet unknown.

Running for his seat, however, are Monique Taylor-Swan and Charles D, Seil, both of whom filed on Monday.

Seil has a website touting his work as a volunteer around the city, including work in graffiti abatement, the 2015-2016 citizens budget advisory committee and as president of his neighborhood association.

According to the site, he is a 24-year resident of the city and is married with four adult children. The Renton Reporter contacted Seil, but was unable to schedule an interview prior to the deadline of this issue.

Taylor-Swan is more of an unknown at this point. She does not seem have an active campaign website yet and the number listed on her campaign profile returns as inactive. She did not return an email request for an interview before press time of this issue.

Also filing early this week were Mayor Denis Law and councilmembers Don Persson, Ed Prince and Ruth Perez. Challenger Carol Ann Witschi, who is running against Palmer, also filed early in the week.

Three members of the Renton School Board have filed for re-election, Todd Franceschina, Lynn Desmarais and Denise L. Eider.

Carolyn Parnell, a veteran of the Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Commissioners, has filed for a fourth term for commission District 2. Dr. Terry Block, who was appointed to replace commissioner Dr. Aaron Heide, who resigned, has filed to run outright for his commission Position 4 seat. The hospital district owns Valley Medical Center.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. today, Friday, to officially announce their intentions to run.
