The Return to Renton Car Show went off without a hitch Sunday and even got a bit of a spotlight with the added bonus of nice weather for the outdoor event.

Money raised from the car show will support the Renton Police Department Youth Fund. Organizers are still counting the proceeds, but say that figure is close to the $13,000 that was raised last year.

There were more than 400 classic cars on display and at least 3,000 spectators in addition to the car owners, said event organizers.

A 1948 Crosley Wagon known as the “Tiki Taxi” was this year’s crowd pleaser drawing the attention of many visitors.

A touching moment for Jim Medzegian, event organizer, was when the Steve Maxwell Memorial Trophy was won by Tamara Ottinger of the Highlands for her yellow 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger muscle car. Ottinger and her husband were close friends of Maxwell, a longtime deputy sheriff, community leader and husband of Rep. Marcie Maxwell. Steve Maxwell passed away in March of 2010 and the trophy was given in his honor.

Feedback from the show has all been positive. At the event a couple was so moved by its success that they donated $1,000 on the spot, said Medzegian.

“Everybody felt like it was a well oiled machine, running,” said Ryan Runge, event organizer.
