Evening and overnight drivers on State Route 900 through Skyway will need to plan ahead as a single direction of the highway is closed at 8 p.m. nightly this week for concrete panel replacement.

Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews will close the highway from just south of the Interstate 5 interchange to 64th Avenue South.

Drivers will follow posted detour signs.

The project is part of a $3.2 million project on the three-mile stretch of highway that began in April.

State route 900 carries an estimated 29,000 vehicles per day.

The work is being done overnight, including repairing and replacing pavement, improving curb ramps and raising the northbound side near where it connects with I5.

According to an interview with officials last month, WSDOT plans a full closure of the highway for one weekend later this summer, though that is yet to be determined.

What drivers can expect:

Only one direction of SR 900 will close each night, beginning at 8 p.m. and re-opening daily at 5 a.m.

• Eastbound closure: June 6, 8, 9, 13

• Westbound closure: June 7

• No closures are scheduled Friday-Sunday nights
