Both southbound lanes of Main Avenue South from South Fourth Street to City Hall will be closed to traffic during the day for construction of 1,500 feet of a water main in Main Avenue South and Benson Road South.

Both southbound lanes of Main Avenue South from South Fourth Street to City Hall will be closed to traffic during the day for construction of 1,500 feet of a water main in Main Avenue South and Benson Road South.

Construction begins Monday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Both southbound lanes will be re-opened to traffic at 3:30 p.m. daily in time for the afternoon commute.

Construction is expected to last through early September.

The contractor will have a signed detour route that will use South Fourth Street and Williams Avenue South to Grady Way. Williams Avenue parallels Main Avenue.

The new 16-inch diameter water main will replace the last remaining portion of the existing aging pipe. In 2010, the Washington state Department of Transportation replaced a portion of the old water line as part of the I-405 Stage 2 widening project to accommodate the construction of the new freeway off-ramp and the realignment of Benson Road South.
