Harambee in Renton will host two benefit concerts for youth empowerment group Cry Out! this weekend and next.
Celestine Ezinkwo, the organization’s executive director, will hold his album release party at the center on Saturday, June 18.
Ezinkwo’s album focuses on speaking up for injustices and issues he educates and inspires youth to write about at the center.
An all Renton High School alumni showcase of rap and hip hop artists will perform a benefit show Saturday, June 25.
The show seeks to introduce youth to the talented people who came from Renton High School who are now part of Seattle’s music scene and encourage the youth to be proud of where they came from, said Monica Howard, organizer.
But, you don’t have to be alumni of Renton High to attend, said Howard.
Dyme Def, The Gifted Program, SK, Guap Fam, LakeHouse Ent., Sketch and Terry Monster are all scheduled to perform.
Renton High alum and KUBE 93 personality Eddie Francis will be the guest host of the event. Organizers are expecting more than 200 to attend.
Proceeds from the showcase and the album release party will benefit CryOut!, a Renton-based program that develops youth leaders by using creative platforms such as music, dance, arts and workshops to empower youth.
