Smoking a cigarette gets man arrested for gun, drug possession | POLICE BLOTTER

A man stopped for violating the rules by smoking a cigarette at the Metro Transit Center downtown March 6 was jailed after he was found in possession of a stolen gun and cocaine.

The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department case reports.

A man stopped for violating the rules by smoking a cigarette at the Metro Transit Center downtown March 6 was jailed after he was found in possession of a stolen gun and cocaine.

Initially, the man gave officers a false name and indicated he had a permit to carry the gun that was in the front of his pants. But he didn’t have any proof because he left his wallet in his uncle’s vehicle.

When pressed, he told officers he gave a false name because of a warrant. Under his correct name were two warrants, including one for $1,000 for unlawful transit conduct.

After the arrest of the 21-year-old Seattle man, a search revealed $292 in cash, a loaded ammo case, a glass pipe, a digital scale, a baggy of marijuana and a baggy of cocaine.

He insisted the marijuana and cocaine were for his personal use.

The loaded 22-caliber revolver was reported stolen in Kirkland.

He was booked into the SCORE regional jail for investigation of possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Pizza shop robbed

The Little Caesars on South Second Street was robbed March 6 of $61 by a man who implied he was carrying a gun in his jacket pocket.

The man, who appeared to be in his 40s and was wearing a bomber jacket, was at the store at a busy time and waited for other customers to leave.

He told an employee, “Don’t get jumpy-skittish. Open the register and don’t make a lot of noise.”

He reached into the register, took the cash and fled.

Renton investigators learned the Little Caesars suspect was possibly the same man who robbed an IHOP and Jack in the Box in Seattle.

The 47-year-old Bellevue man was arrested for investigation of second-degree robbery by Seattle police.

He admitted to robbing the Little Caesars but he was just faking about the gun. He told officers he needed money to feed his drug habit.

Tires slashed

A tire on a personal vehicle belonging to a King County Sheriff’s Office employee was slashed March 4 while parked at the dispatch building in the Highlands.

Three slash marks were found on the tire by a repair shop.

Almost able to hide name

A 24-year-old Seattle woman, who was driving a Toyota with expired tabs on Southwest Grady Way, went to great lengths March 4 to hide her identity from Renton officers.

She had no identification with her and names and birth dates she gave to officers didn’t return any records. She claimed she worked for Harborview but the medical center didn’t have her name in its records.

Finally, officers got ahold of her boyfriend, who owns the Toyota. He gave officers a name. That didn’t pan out either.

She was arrested and booked into the SCORE jail under the name Jane Doe for investigation of driving with a suspended license, obstructing an officer and driving with expired tabs.

The jail confirmed her name, which was the last one she gave to officers.

Bullet nearly hits woman watching TV

A 77-year-old Renton woman watching TV at about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 28 was nearly hit by a bullet fired into her house on Southwest Hardie Avenue.

But she didn’t realize the danger until her husband called police the next afternoon to investigate a bullet hole in the exterior of their house.

The bullet continued through an interior wall and into a TV stand, about six feet from where the woman sat.

Officers determined the spot on Southwest Victoria Street where the shot was fired.
