RTC kicks off anniversary year with annual Student Success Breakfast

The Student Success Breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the RTC Cafeteria, Building I, on the campus at 3000 NE 4th St.

Renton Technical College (RTC) plans to kick off its yearlong 75th anniversary celebration with the annual RTC Foundation Student Success Breakfast on March 24.

The event raises funds for student scholarships and emergency support, and features inspirational stories of students past and present.

“We are happy to begin this marquee year with a celebration of student achievement,” RTC President Kevin McCarthy said in a press release. “Our students are proof that, with hard work, relevant curriculum, high expectations, and strong support, success is within reach for all.”

“Having Boeing as a primary sponsor reflects the longstanding partnership we have enjoyed for more than seven decades. The aerospace industry is vital to the economic health of this state and RTC provides the workforce development that helps to keep those jobs local and growing,” McCarthy said.

Keith Leverkuhn, Vice President and General Manager for Boeing’s 737 MAX, is this year’s keynote speaker. He is responsible for the development of Boeing’s newest family of single-aisle airplanes – 737 MAX 7, 737 MAX 8, 737 MAX 9 and 737 MAX 200 – building on the Next-Generation 737’s popularity and reliability while delivering customers unsurpassed fuel efficiency in the single-aisle market.

Leverkuhn was previously the Vice President of Propulsion Systems and Chief Engineer for the 777 airplane. He knows the importance of developing the company’s future workforce.

“At Boeing, we know we must compete to attract the best and the brightest minds,” said Leverkuhn.

“Partnering with Renton Technical College allows us to find that talent and have a hand in helping students develop the right skills to help Boeing maintain its competitive edge,” said Leverkuhn.

The event is the first in a yearlong celebration of RTC’s 75th Anniversary. “Innovation is why this college exists,” said McCarthy. “Renton Technical College began in 1941 as a war production school training women and men for work in the Boeing and PACCAR production plants. From training ‘Rosie the Riveter’ and welders at the start, we seek today to provide the educational experience that spurs and supports innovation in our region.”

Attendance to the breakfast is complimentary with a suggested donation of $175. This year’s fundraising goal is $75,000. Your generous support can help hundreds of students reach their career goals and improve their lives.
