Return to Renton car show pulls in $17,500 for police youth fund

Medzegian estimated the car show has raised nearly $200,000 in total for the fund over the years.

The numbers are in an the largest-ever Return to Renton car show will lead to one of the highest amounts of money they’ve ever donated to the Renton Police Department Youth Fund.

According to show chairman Jim Medzegian, this year’s show raised $17,500, similar to last year.

“This ties our max,” he said Friday. “We get good support from the business community and we sell shirts.”

Medzegian estimated the car show has raised nearly $200,000 in total for the fund.

This year marked the 22nd year for the annual car show, and with 485 entrants was the largest ever.

In 1991, local classic car enthusiasts Ben and Nancy Remak saw a need for a local car show. They had a soft spot for youth, and organized a show that would benefit youth programs provided by the Renton Police Department.

The First Annual Return to Renton Car Show and Cruise-In was hosted at the Renton Holiday Inn, and was a resounding success.

With the support of local businesses, residents, and organizations such as the Renton Chamber of Commerce and the Piazza Renton Organization, the Return to Renton Car Show and Cruise-In has celebrated 22 successful years. Since its inception, the event has evolved to include trucks, motorcycles, vendors, entertainment and activities for children.

Plans for next year’s show are already under way and the date has already been chosen: July 6, 2014.
