Renton’s Rod Stewart offers $100 reward to catch planter box vandals

His imagination paid off. He won and victory in the downtown contest came with a $25 gift certificate from IKEA in Renton.

But Stewart’s thoughts also turned to an ongoing problem downtown – the vandalism and outright theft of plants and sometimes planters designed to add color to downtown street corners.

“They look really nice,” he said.

Stewart is offering a $100 reward for information that will help catch the vandals and thieves. Anyone with information about such a criminal act should call 911.

Stewart is hoping to raise awareness about the damage so that people downtown will keep an out eye for the vandals.

Last year, about a dozen planters were affected and so far this year, two have been victimized. The damage occurs at night.
