Renton to unveil the Jamal Crawford Court Saturday at Liberty Park

Renton will unveil the newly refurbished Jamal Crawford Court at Liberty Park with a celebration and dedication ceremony on Saturday (Sept. 24).

Renton will unveil the newly refurbished Jamal Crawford Court at Liberty Park with a celebration and dedication ceremony on Saturday (Sept. 24).

Crawford, 31, will be presented with a key to the city and will receive a proclamation by Mayor Denis Law. The event is noon to 3 p.m. at Liberty Park between Bronson and Houser ways.

National Basketball Association (NBA) Star Jamal Crawford, who was an All-American star at Rainier Beach High School, earned the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2010, lived for much of his early childhood and youth in Renton.  As a youth, he spent days and evenings at Liberty Park, working on his basketball skills and game.

The Jamal Crawford Foundation has funded significant improvements to the Liberty Park basketball courts, including resurfacing, new back boards, goals and bleachers.

Jimmy Mac’s BBQ, hosted by the Jamal Crawford Foundation, will provide a lunch starting at 12:30 p.m. There’s a speaking program at 1 p.m.
