A 17-year-old girl from Seattle died Tuesday night in a traffic accident near Maple Valley on Sweeney Road.
According to King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, there were four teenagers in the 1991 Ford Escort. The call came into Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety at about 10:15 p.m.
The 18-year-old male driver from Renton lost control of the car coming out of a curve in the 22600 block of Sweeney Road Southeast. The car slid sideways and sheared off a fire hydrant, rolled over and stopped against a tree.
The 17-year-old girl died en route to to Harborview Medical Center.
The other passengers were a 17-year-old boy from Ravensdale and 16-year-old girl from Renton. The teenage boy and girl and the driver were transported to Valley Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening.
According to Urquhart detectives did not find evidence of drugs or alcohol. Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
