This is Computer Science Education Week and some Renton students are participating by testing out their skills in the program “Hour of Code.”

The program is an introduction to computer science, designed to break down the basic principles of coding. Hazen High School is one of several Renton schools that’s able to teach computer science because of Microsoft’s Technology Education and Literacy in Schools program or TEALS.

This program places a technology professional into high schools to teach computer science. The goal of the week-long effort is to bring the “Hour of Code” to 100 million youth during the week.

Microsoft is supporting the week’s programs and activities, in partnership with Code.org and Girls Who Code. Employees of Microsoft are helping facilitate “Hour of Code” tutorials across the state and country.
