Elementary school, including sixth grade and high school ninth grade, starts Aug. 31. Grades seventh and eighth as well as high school grades 10th through 12th will start Sept. 1.

Sixth and ninth graders get a chance to check out their respective schools earlier than upper class men to get acclimated to their campuses.

There are no noticeable changes due to budget cuts for students and parents in the district. There will be no increases in class sizes or lunch prices and no changes to transportation, said Randy Matheson, district spokesperson.

The district has reconfigured at least three administrative positions and some budgets to adjust to cuts in state funding, but they have managed to avoid impacting classrooms.

There will be a new teachers breakfast presented by Valley Medical Center on Aug. 25.

Mike Flood, Seattle Seahawks vice president of community relations and special projects, will be the keynote speaker at the breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at Renton Technical College.

There are between 50 and 60 new teachers in the district and the Renton Chamber of Commerce is asking for support in sponsoring a teacher’s breakfast at a ticket price of $15 per teacher. The public is invited to attend and individual tickets are $15.

For more information about the new teachers breakfast contact the Chamber of Commerce at 425-226-4560.
