Renton police arrest four following armed carjacking

Three of the suspects were reportedly juveniles, and one was a young adult.

Four suspects were taken in custody by Renton police following an attempted carjacking.

At around 4:30 p.m. June 8, Renton police officers were dispatched to an attempted vehicle theft in progress near an apartment complex located at the 500 block of Stevens Avenue SW.

Police soon determined the incident to be an attempted carjacking as two suspects reportedly pointed a handgun at the female victim and demanded keys to the vehicle, a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. According to police, the suspects were unable to drive the vehicle, moving it only a short distance before abandoning it and fleeing.

A K9-unit was used to track the suspects, which led the officers to a location nearby where a witness reported seeing the two suspects hiding under a deck, then hopping into the trunk of a Honda, with two others inside the vehicle. The Honda reportedly turned out to be a confirmed stolen vehicle.

After fleeing at high speed, the suspects reportedly abandoned this vehicle, and all fled the scene on foot. One subject fled north along the 50 block of SW Sunset Blvd. The other three subjects fled north toward the 200 block of 275 Rainier Avenue S.

Officers tracked down and detained all four suspects without injury, according to Renton police. Multiple firearms were recovered as well as other evidence. Three of the suspects were juveniles, and one was a young adult.

The three juveniles were booked into King County Youth Center and the adult was booked into King County Jail. Charges will vary per individual, but do include probable cause for robbery, stolen vehicle, and felony unlawful possession of a firearm, according to police.
