King County Deputies have arrested a Renton man for allegedly assaulting a Metro Bus Driver this morning in South King County.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to South 296th Street and 36th Avenue South at about 8:30 a.m. for a report that a Metro driver had been assaulted. The driver reported that a man backhanded her in the face as he was getting off the bus.

As a deputy was driving to the call, she was flagged down by a Metro Transit supervisor at South 302nd Street and 32nd Avenue South. The supervisor was in his van following the suspect who was fleeing the scene on foot.

When the deputy confronted the suspect he pulled out a knife. The deputy repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the knife but he refused and told the deputy, “f*** you, just shoot me.”

The suspect, while still holding the knife, backed away from the deputy but continued to tell her to “shoot me.” The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

King County Sheriff’s deputies including Guardian 1, K-9 and patrol officers from Federal Way P.D., Kent P.D., and Sound Transit responded to the area to assist.

Guardian 1 spotted the suspect hiding in the woods and directed deputies to his location. The suspect ran on to South 304th Street and was taken into custody.

He is a 38-year-old Renton man and was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of second- and third-degree assault.
