Renton City Councilmember Ruth Pérez takes oath of office

According to the city, she is the first Mexican-American immigrant elected to the council.

Renton City Councilmember Ruth Pérez was sworn-in on Dec. 27 to her third term on the council.

According to the city, Pérez is the first Mexican-American and immigrant elected to the Renton City Council.

She was sworn-in by Renton Municipal Court Judge Jessica Giner, and her family also attended. She took her oath of office in both English and Spanish.

As the incumbent, Pérez ran for Council Position No. 6 unopposed.
