A passenger got out of a car and pointed his semi-automatic pistol at a family of five in Benson Hill Aug. 7.

The family had called 911 and followed the car, after suspecting the female driver was drunk.

The father first saw the blue Honda Civic when it came up behind them at a high rate of speed. He opened the door to look back at the driver; she then she opened her door and began to yell.

When the light turned green, the suspect followed the family to another red light.

She got out and started yelling at the man. However, she was forced to get back into the car when it started rolling.

The family called 911 and followed the suspect. She then stopped her car in middle of the road at 113th Place Southeast and Southeast 181st Street.

A man exited the car bearing the handgun, which he banged on the hood of the victim’s 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The officer reported the family was on the verge of tears.

At the time of the report, no arrests were made.

Hurt cat healed

Animal control picked up an injured black and white cat on the 3700 block of Lincoln Court Northeast July 31.

Though the cat limped, it didn’t have any broken bones, just bruising. The Cedar River Animal Hospital kept the cat until it healed and then found it a home.

Graffiti

There was a report of graffiti on a picnic table at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park July 27.

Drunk gets caught in drive through

A woman was arrested for drunken driving after pulling through a drive-in coffee shop on the 400 block of Rainier Avenue South.

Employees called 911 Aug. 17 at 10:40 p.m.

Police pulled into the parking lot to find her sitting in the front seat. The husband came out from the store and told police he was driving. Witnesses disagreed.

She failed the field sobriety test and a blood alcohol readings came to .139 and .143.

Hit and run

A 15-year-old boy was hit in the leg by a car, after attempting to stop traffic so a group could safely cross.

His leg was red and showed the beginning of a bruise, but he was otherwise OK. There were no crosswalks in that area.

There was no one on the road when the victim stepped down.

The suspect, a Seattle man, initially stopped in front of the boy. He then cussed and drove around the boy, hitting him on the 800 block of West Perimeter Road July 27.

The driver didn’t stop to check on the boy.

Police found the suspect by using a partial license plate number. When they questioned him, he admitted being in that area.

Breach of the peace

When police asked a 16-year-old boy to turn down his profane rap music on the 5100 block of Northeast 20th Street July 17, he yelled back that there was nothing police could do about it.

When the officer got to the house, the music was so loud the boy didn’t hear the officer knock.

Walking to the back deck, the officer found an open window where the music was blaring.

The officer found a pair of tennis shoes and lobbed them into an open window, before the boy turned off the music.

When the boy rebuked the officer, the officer called his mother. The officer watched the boy talk to his mother on the phone, but the boy then said his mother agreed that police couldn’t stop him.

The officer stated his disagreement but couldn’t cite the boy.

Breach of the peace citations can only be given if a suspect repeats the offense after a warning and during the same day, said police spokesperson Terri Vickers.

In this case, 911 dispatchers recorded four calls about this house since May, but no two calls were on the same day, she said.

The mother said she struggled dealing with her son. The officer instructed her about her legal authority over her son.
