REMINDER: City Council to discuss possible de-annexation from KCLS on Monday

The City Council Committee of the Whole will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday with the regular council meeting to follow at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.

The Renton City Council will discuss the possibility of de-annexation from the King County Library System during its Committee of the Whole on Monday.

Council President Randy Corman on March 25 suggested a resolution on de-annexation to allow the council to discuss all of their options regarding the KCLS rebuild of the Cedar River Library downtown.

Corman said state law allows either side to begin the de-annexation after three years and called it “irresponsible” for the council not to discuss the possibility.

The council following more than an hour of public comment directed at the library plans, passed a motion calling for a formal de-annexation resolution.

Voters in February 2010 approved the annexation into KCLS by a total of 53 votes.
