The 40-year-old Auburn man decided that he needed to call Renton Police after receiving an unexpected text Dec. 18 with a photo of a young boy asking to make random friends.

He was concerned the text he received in Bellevue was a sting or trap intended to lure him into legal trouble. Or the child was placing himself in danger by sending out such random messages.

He was turned away by other police agencies when asked for help, so he stopped at Renton City Hall.

An officer called the number but it wasn’t answered. The officer received a text, asking, “Who is this?” The officer identified himself and asked to talk with the parents. The boy declined. The officer told the boy it wasn’t safe to text random people and send photos, which he acknowledged.

He promised not to do it again.

BRANDISHING: A 37-year-old Renton man waved his handgun on a downtown Renton street Dec. 14 during an argument with his wife of six years.

The man saw his wife outside a downtown club and wanted to speak with. She walked off. He followed her to South Third Street and Wells Avenue South, where she told officers he pointed his gun a her and several people standing with her. She stayed close to him because she feared he might shoot one of her friends.

911 was called. An officer saw a handgun sticking out from his sweatshirt. He put his hands on top of his car and the gun was seized. In checking the gun, an officer found that it had a round chambered.

He was booked into the SCORE regional jail for investigation of first-degree domestic violence.

TRANSIT CENTER ATTACK: A 59-year-old Seattle man was assaulted by two young males the night of Dec. 11 on Logan Avenue South after just getting off the bus at the Metro Transit Center in downtown Renton.

Right before, he had seen the two males sitting at another bus bay from the one where he sat.

He was punched in the head with such force that he fell to the ground, where he covered his body and face with his arms to fend off other punches. He was struck 12 to 15 times.

He complained he couldn’t breath and the other male pulled off his attacker. He told officers the attacker muttered something about looking funny at him.

Officers found a possible suspect with blood on his white jacket, but he wasn’t the attacker.

Except for an abrasion on his wrist, he wasn’t injured because he balled up to protect himself.
