For The Reporter:

Late-night drivers who use northbound State Route 167 to access Rainier Avenue South and northbound Interstate 405 in Renton near the I-405/SR 167 interchange should plan for detours and extra travel time during the next two weeks.

Starting tonight, May 31, construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to close multiple lanes nightly on both northbound SR 167 and northbound I-405. They will also close numerous ramps near the I-405/SR 167 interchange. This work is necessary to allow crews to set girders over the SR 167 and the I-405 roadways as they continue building the new flyover ramp for the I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector Project.

During the closures, northbound SR 167 drivers will be able to access northbound Rainier Avenue South toward downtown Renton and southbound I-405 toward Tukwila via a detour route on northbound I-405. Northbound I-405 will be reduced to a single lane between SR 167 and Talbot Road South. All lanes will reopen by 4 a.m., and the work is scheduled for weeknights only.
