The Thanksgiving-week cold claimed at least one life in the Renton area.

James R. Furseth, 66, died of hypothermia in his mobile home on Southeast May Valley Road Nov. 20.

The King County Medical Examiner’s ruling was unexpected, because the woman who found Furseth reported his home was a warm 75 degrees, said Sgt. John Urquhart.

Hypothermia is caused when people are exposed to cold temperatures for too long.

Furseth mostly kept to himself, living in a trailer on the back of a larger property. Neighbors discovered his body about three days after he died, he said.
